Introduction

This species breeds widely but locally throughout much of the northern Great Plains and northeastern North America but rarely wanders west during migration. Additional anecdotal reports of this species in northeastern portions of the province (Peace River lowlands) during the summer months have not been confirmed and are omitted from this document; however, breeding populations in northern Alberta occur in relatively close proximity to this region and it is conceivable that some individuals may wander into northeastern B.C. on occasion.
